You've Got Mothmail!

Dear Reader,

I am so excited that you've signed up for Mothmail and that this is in your inbox! Thank you, truly, for your continued support.

Curious Cryptid Learning (and my side-projects like neurokink and Aces Up Your Sleeve podcast) are labors of love- it's amazing to see them all slowly come to fruition and it helps take my mind off of health issues.

Earlier this month, I helped lead the Autistic Clinical Insights symposium and it was so cool to be part of that community and unveil our huuuge 1+ yr project to support therapists and their work with autistic clients!

While we wait on my applications with AASECT and NBCC for continuing education approval, I want to highlight the courses that are currently available: FREEBIES, detransition-related, and some for Play Therapy CE credits.

πŸ’« Don't forget the mailing list discount code for 13% off of any single paid course this month: VIP13

Newest Sightings

Two free recorded courses from Autistic Clinical Insights Symposium are ready to share. If you missed them, want the replay, or want to share the content with friends, now you can!

Those were so fun to record and present with my co-presenters!

I also have a pre-CE sale running on my Detransition? The Ethics of Understanding & Supporting Clients 2 hour intermediate course. You'll need a basic understanding of trans and non-binary identities before you jump in, as well as the foundational concepts of our role in writing gender affirming care letters; the content will make a lot more sense if you start with that knowledge.

By the time you're done with the course, you'll be ready to support these clients, have resources to connect them with, and be totally up-to-date on the relevant research. (Let me save you the scholarly article reading time!)

The thorough 6.5 hour Neurodiversity Affirming Ethical Play Therapy for Autistic Youth course is getting good reviews so far! Matt Lowry, LPP, guest stars in the interview on Autistic Culture for youth.

You can expect to learn all about:

  • How to screen youth for autism throughout the course of Play Therapy
  • Autistic culture & representation for youth
  • Common challenges for autistic kids & teens and how we can support them in therapy
  • How to support them and their guardians (especially utilizing Play Therapy)
  • And how to let their special interests shine for some truly connected & attuned therapy!

(And no, you don't have to have any Play Therapy experience to enroll!)

The big 6.5 hour Affirming Play Therapy for Trans Youth course is also ready! This is jampacked with lived experience, research, and creativity. Be ready for some music, Play Therapy activity ideas, and so much more.

You'll be learning:

  • What it means to be trans (including our history)
  • Trans culture & representation for youth
  • Hurdles trans youth have to overcome
  • Ways to support guardians (and to help them support their kids)
  • Bibliotherapy ideas (who doesn't love a good book?)
  • What it means to access & provide gender affirming care
  • How to incorporate play for these clients (even if you've never done Play Therapy!)
  • And why this work is so vital!

Curious Cryptid Learning is an Association for Play Therapy Approved Provider (#25-797) so you can qualify for continuing education credits if you take the course, the eval, and pass the post-test. If you want to bundle the two courses together for 15% off and 13 continuing ed hours, you can enroll in both at the bottom of this page.

Go Paint Rocks! A Play-based Approach is here to energize your practice. Rock painting is a fairly low-cost way to:

  • connect clients to nature
  • increase their mind-body connection
  • support their artistic self-expression
  • practice using their fine motor skills
  • introduce them to Play Therapy concepts
  • and even build community!

It includes two handouts (a supply list and info sheet.) This course is a solid way to see what my trainings are like if you've never attended one before - and it's also a great way to get a few quick ideas that you can put into practice right away!

The story of disabled success has never been a story about one solitary disabled person overcoming limitationsβ€” despite the fact that’s the narrative we so often read in the media.
The narrative trajectory of a disabled person’s life is necessarily webbed.
We are often only as strong as our friends and family make us, only as strong as our community...
